March Fishing Report

Saw three fishermen on wed/thur. They were bank fishing, casting out and letting it sit. I only had one customer Thursday. I don’t know if there is going to be a Springer season.
Tacoma Power reported employees recovered 33 winter-run steelhead adults during four days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator. During the past week, Tacoma Power released two winter-run steelhead adults into the Cispus River near Yellow Jacket creek.
River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 7,030 cubic feet per second on Monday, Feb 22. Water visibility is 5 feet and the water temperature is 42.3 F. River flows could change at any time boaters and anglers should remain alert for this possibility.
Riffe Lake was at 720 ft. elev. Four feet higher than the week before and now 29 feet below the new permanent level of the lake of 749 ft. Mossyrock Park launch and day use area are open.
Taidnapam North Boat Launch is closed because of low water.

December Fishing Report

Things have been pretty slow, but there are still Coho coming in, which is shocking because it is pretty much tail end to be done but they are still coming in.
I have heard that some guys are catching some chrome bright steelhead down at Blue Creek, which is shocking news.
I had a guy today say that he had a guy come in below him and he was a fly fishermen, he hooked a chrome bright steelhead and released it.

Take a nice day, dress warm and go fishing!

September Fishing Report

Things on the Cowlitz River are still pretty slow, but the steelhead numbers are picking up so hopefully they start catching them. The guys are still putting in their a=time and so forth, everybody is trying. They are still going after the Kokanee on Riffe Lake and hitting the smaller lakes and streams. Carlisle Lake I have heard there are some really nice sized trout and a few bass have been caught out of there, also nice size catfish.
I’ve heard at Swofford Pond a person going there this week but I don’t know if they did any good or not.
Remember take a nice day and go fishing!

September President’s Message

Hello FOC members, friends and family.
It’s that time of year again for our Labor Day Free Fishing For kids. If you are out and about please stop in and say hello and let the kids catch a fish. We are also still looking for volunteers to help out with these events.
We have had a good summer even amongst all the Covid-19 doings going on.
And as always thank you to all the members, family and friends of Friends of the Cowlitz. We appreciate each one of you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Don Glaser
FOC President

Hello FOC members, friends and family.
Looks like everything has been picking up and opening back up a little at a time. Fishing is still a little slow where you have to put your time in but there is a lot more people getting out and about.
So far Fish Pond Functions have not gone on as we had liked. Some have been cancelled due to the different phases but we are keeping optimistic that soon these will get to happen and reschedule if possible. We will still  be looking for volunteers to help with these events. If you are interested in helping please contact the Barrier Dam Store at 360-985-2495.
As always thank you all for your continued support especially through these trying times. We hope all of you are staying happy, safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Don Glaser
FOC President

Things are pretty slow so far this week, summer run are barely trickling in. If you want to catch summer run you have to put your time in. They are doing pretty well with Kokanee up on Riffe Lake. I keep hearing they have been hitting them real hard.
I have heard of a few bass being caught out on Swofford Pond not much else yet. I haven’t heard of anything from Mayfield this week. I hear of some real nice rainbow being caught out of Crystal Lake.
The river level right now is 6850 as of June 5th.

Take a day and go Fishing!
