Fishing on the Cowlitz has improved. We are getting larger numbers of coho in. They raised the water to 3500 c.f.s. that has helped. WDFW closed our fall chinook fishery, at least until they get enough kings in for brood stock.
Fishermen are using a variety of tackle to catch the coho. If you’re a bait fishermen eggs and sand shrimp have been the best choice. Twitching jigs have been very popular. Also the Wicked Lures and Blue Fox have been excellent. Corky and yarn has also been good. Some days it’s a bait day and the next day a hardware day. No real set pattern. A variety of colors are being used. Most boaters are still on the Columbia fishing. People fishing Blue Creek are still catching a nice steelhead here and there.
They are still catching nice trout in Mayfield and Riffe Lake. They are catching trout and bass in Swofford Pond. We have a variety of fishing in the area so take a day…relax..and go fishing…
