Friends of the Cowlitz Monthly Message

It looks like Fall is upon us but the weather is still looking good with more sunny days.
Friends of the Cowlitz is still working diligently and up to date on all the issues surrounding fishing, WDFW and the Cowlitz River. Members are continuously going to current meetings and speaking out for fishermen’s rights.
The Boat Raffle is getting closer and closer only a few short months left. Have you bought your tickets for a chance to win? You can contact Barrier Dam Campground at 360.985.2495 and purchase over the phone or stop in.
We are starting to work on the Friends of the Cowlitz 2020 calendars. Are you a new and upcoming business and would like to place your add in next year’s calendar? Email Leah at friendsofthecowlitz.net to get yours set up today. Or if you would like to purchase a 2020 Calendar.
Thank you again to all our members and volunteers through out this year.

Sincerely,

October Fishing Report

Things on the Cowlitz River are pretty slow but I have heard they are picking up. I have heard of a few coho being caught and the silvers are coming in more heavy. I haven’t seen any winter run steelhead yet, so they should be starting to trickle in within the next month or so. Still some summer run coming into the hatchery. And of course fall Chinook are still closed, as far as I have heard and not going to open. And the pool is still closed down to the 400-foot marker. Mayfield Lake is back up so the docks should all be operational. I haven’t heard of anyone using them yet. The boat launches should also be operational and up to full capacity. Water on the Cowlitz River is running at, as of last week, 3570 cfs.

There is still good sunny days coming. Take a nice day, relax and go fishing!
