May Fishing Report

They have opened up the fishing and people are out there fishing. As far as I know, everybody is trying to follow the social distancing guidelines. Otherwise, if we don’t they might close fishing again. The fishermen are picking up some late winter-run steelhead down here in the river.
South County Park is still picking up some nice trout. They have closed spring Chinook on the Cowlitz, so you cannot keep salmon. There are a few summer-run steelhead also starting to show.
If you have the patience and the time take a day to relax and go fishing.

October Fishing Report

Things on the Cowlitz River are pretty slow but I have heard they are picking up. I have heard of a few coho being caught and the silvers are coming in more heavy. I haven’t seen any winter run steelhead yet, so they should be starting to trickle in within the next month or so. Still some summer run coming into the hatchery. And of course fall Chinook are still closed, as far as I have heard and not going to open. And the pool is still closed down to the 400-foot marker. Mayfield Lake is back up so the docks should all be operational. I haven’t heard of anyone using them yet. The boat launches should also be operational and up to full capacity. Water on the Cowlitz River is running at, as of last week, 3570 cfs.

There is still good sunny days coming. Take a nice day, relax and go fishing!
