Karen’s Fish Report

There are still some Steelhead being caught on the Cowlitz. Water levels changed this week a couple times. They just dropped it again today to 2430 ft. It was 4610 ft a few days ago.
There are some Smallmouth bass being caught on Riffe Lake. The usual trout are being caught at Carlisle Lake, South County, Swofford and the rest. I haven’t heard much from Mayfield Lake or Mineral this week.

Take a nice day and go fishing!

And as always, Thank You!

July Fishing Report

Things on the Cowlitz River I am going to have to say are about the same. They are getting some nice fish but still putting their time in. Sometimes, you know, it takes patience and time. And from what I am hearing the run is still like seven to eight pounders but nice bright fish.
The river has stayed right at 2400 now for quite a few days. That’s good as there are no fluctuations of the water. The water is clear. Other then low, is is in really good shape. Most all of the action is coming from Blue Creek and down.

There is hardly anyone fishing at Barrier Dam at all. Sometimes a boat or two goes in down here and works their way down. Or drift boats will put in here and go all the way down to Blue Creek or Mission. All in all I would say the river is doing about the same. Mayfield Lake they have been getting some nice trout I hear. Riffe Lake have been getting some silvers and some bass. Swofford Pond they have been getting catfish and trout. South County park they are still picking up some nice trout.
We still have a variety of fishing in the area. Take a nice day and go fishing!

And as always, Thank you!

April Fishing Report

Things on the Cowlitz River have picked up some. We have more steelhead, so if there’s more fish there is more fish to catch which makes the fishermen happy.
They have done pretty good, especially the Blue Creek area, both bankers and boaters. You are still having to put your time in, we’re hearing, and seeing a few more fish and that’s a good sign. Plunkers are still picking up some nice steelhead, so that means there are fish coming yet.
The water flow has dropped and now we’re down to 3800,and that’s really pretty low. Once it gets stabilized the bite gets better. I think we will be looking at low water for most of the year. All in all pressure has picked up, there has been quite a few more people out there fishing now, quite a few boats going out at Blue Creek and Mission Creek every day so that is a good sign. Mayfield Lake they are picking up some nice trout from what I have heard. Riffe Lake they are still getting some silvers. And as far as I know I don’t think the boat launches are open on Riffe yet. Swofford Pond are getting some trout and some bass.
All in all we still have some fishing in the area, so take a nice day or a rainy day just take your rain gear with you 😉 Anyways relax and go fishing.

March Fishing Report

Not much new on the Cowlitz River this week. Everything is about the same. They are still picking up steelhead, mainly in Blue Creek area. Still not red hot but the fishermen putting their time in are getting some nice steelhead.

And of course they have closed the Spring Chinook on March 1, so you cannot fish on them. If you do happen to hook one you just have to release it. The water has been staying almost the same around 5000 for quite a few days, yesterday they did a spike it up to 6 something but we are back down to 5050 right now. That is kind of a plus with the water not fluctuation fish do bite better, once they get settled down.

I am hearing of fish off the bank and boat fishermen. Over the weekend there was quite a few boats out. I heard only three fish were caught but I am sure there was more because I don’t talk to everybody. I also heard that Mayfield is picking up trout. I heard Riffe is picking up silvers again and Swofford Pond has been picking up some trout also.

So we will have a little variety of fishing in the area. Bundle up and take a day and relax and go fishing!

December Fishing Report

Karen’s Fish Report

Things on the Cowlitz River are probably about the same, but we do have a few more fish that have come in. Last week they did raise the water up to almost 10,000 cfs. And so what was down below, I think is the fish we got. There were quite a few that went into the hatchery. And I would say they caught more last week. A few more steelhead also most from what I have heard are coming from the Blue Creek area. Coho are mostly coming from Barrier Dam area. I have heard Mayfield Lake is doing pretty well, and then all of a sudden a gentlemen said he couldn’t get a fish. But some were getting some really nice trout. Riffe Lake is still getting a few silvers. Swofford Pond has been getting some trout and catfish. All in all we have got some good fishing in the area. Bundle up and maybe take your umbrella and take a day relax and go fishing!

July Fishing Report

So far fishing is still doing good. Salmon steelhead is starting to pick up a little more so the early morning bite is good. The salmon season is still closed until July 31. But we are told it should re-open on July 31 and they are not going to continue the closure. They are still doing well on Mayfield and Riffe Lake for Kokanee and trout. The ponds are doing really well too, in Toledo park anglers are catching nice trout. Limits are coming out of South County park, Carlisle Lake in Onalaska, Swofford Pond in Mossyrock. All in all everything is going good. So take one of these nice days and go fishing!

As of right now fishing is going better for trout then salmon.

May Fishing Report

Things are still going about the same. They are getting some nice fish, but they are still putting their time in. Both at Barrier Dam and Blue Creek. The water has come to 8400 cps, so it is a little high again. For water visibility you’ve got six to ten feet., depending on the weather. Boaters and bankers both are fishing, as of right now the bank fishermen is who I have heard back from the most. At Barrier Dam they are picking up some steelhead now. And even an occasional Chinook, down in the Blue Creek area. Trout fishing has been good from what I hear. Mayfield Lake has been getting trout. Riffe Lake are getting some silvers and bass. Swofford Pond they have been catching trout, blue gills, and some cropies. South County Park they are still getting some nice trout and pretty good size.

Take a day and go Fishing!

Fishing the Cowlitz has been OK. Some days are slower then the others. We are seeing salmon and steelhead. The hatchery took in over 700 steelhead last week so we are seeing salmon and steelhead being caught at Barrier Dam. Mostly steelhead coming from Blue Creek. Boats are putting in at Barrier and Blue Creek. They are using a variety of things– sand shrimp, eggs, tuna bellies, corkies, jigs and blue fox spinners. The river is running at 5100 CFS right now.

Mayfield Lake is producing nice trout, they are catching silvers at Riffe Lake, catching trout of Swofford Pond. They are catching limits of trout out South County park in Toledo.

We have a nice variety of fish being caught in the area. So take a day and relax and go fishing.
